About APRS

 Our History

APRS was first established in 1980 by John Newby as Auto Plant Repair Services Ltd and was based in Levenshulme, Manchester. At that time we were servicing plant equipment as well as cars. As time progressed the servicing of plant equipment became less and we focussed our efforts mainly on vehicle maintenance and repair even becoming one of the first agents for Sun Automotive tuning, a forerunner to the now widely known Crypton tuning.

We have moved and adapted with the times in order to maintain our integrity and standing in the automotive world. During the late eighties and early nineties we were heavily involved in vehicle security, we were the first importers and fitters of the Invisibeam talking alarm system.
As time has gone on we have been one of the first to embrace and utilise new methods and technologies.

From the mid nineties we took on the very new world of engine management system diagnosis and invested in the latest equipment and training. As we've moved into the new millennium and to this day we are at the forefront of electrical diagnosis, air conditioning, and general automotive repairs and auto electrical procedures.

We will continue to move forward and adapt to the ever changing automotive sector and provide the best service possible to our customers.

 Meet the Technicians

John Newby

John Newby founder and managing director of APRS. After being trained to City & Guilds level 3 and Advanced Tech as it was then, I worked for Manchester garages first then Hills garages later.
I went on to operate a fleet of vehicles and plant for James J Walsh Ltd of Chapel Street, Levenshulme. I was the first garage in the area to invest in advanced tuning equipment. I trained with Sun and Crypton Tuning to an advanced level. I also have F gas qualification in air conditioning, with licensed approval in all repairs. I then employed and trained people up to my level over the years and I now have the best team around me.

Paul Newby

Paul Newby has been involved in the trade since before leaving school. He is academically trained to NVQ level 5 and continues to gain further knowledge by attending training seminars and functions offered by vehicle manufacturers and the after market.
He has been instrumental in the development of the diagnostic facilities offered and has developed programs for the benefit of the consumer based on manufacturers own systems. He is currently workshop manager and deals with the day to day operation of the garage.

John Pearce

John Pearce joined the team in 2003 as an apprentice from another garage. He is now trained to NVQ level 4 and holds certification for operating air conditioning systems and refrigerants. In addition, he continues to develop systems for use in vehicle diagnostics and is the resident specialist in deep engine repair work.
